Who are we?
The Canadian Council of University Chemistry Chairs (CCUCC) is a Canadian not-for-profit corporation that brings together the chairs and heads of chemistry departments from more than 40 universities across Canada, representing over 750 faculties and more than 10,000 students. Its primary aim is to promote and enhance the quality of chemistry education and research in the country. The CCUCC facilitates collaboration and communication among Canadian chemistry departments, addressing common issues, sharing best practices, and advocating for the interests of the academic chemistry community.
Overall, the CCUCC plays a significant role in strengthening the chemistry academic community in Canada by fostering cooperation and advocating for the resources and recognition necessary to advance chemistry education and research.
Key functions and activities of the CCUCC include:
- Networking and Collaboration: Providing a platform for chemistry department chairs to network, share experiences, and collaborate on initiatives that benefit the chemistry academic community in Canada.
- Advocacy: Representing the interests of university chemistry departments to governmental agencies, funding bodies, and other relevant organizations to ensure adequate support and funding for chemistry education and research.
- Support for Education and Research: Supporting initiatives that promote chemistry education and research at the undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral levels. In particular, the CCUCC funds a doctoral award and master award to recognize outstanding achievement and potential in research by a graduate student. Furthermore, the CCUCC provides financial incentive to support dissemination of undergraduate research results at a regional or national level.
